I am interested in starting a new non profit to servie the physical, emotional and vocational needs of our veterans. I am a ong time senior executive in human services and have many contacts and resources available to support this new initiative. I could use some guidance from the leadership of the Veteran's Coalition.

Very well written. I am an Architect (A/E vendor) that has worked with stations in VISN 6 and 7 for a decade. Without a doubt, the weakest link is in the methods of Contracting and the departments of Infrastructure (or Engineering, which usually includes Maintenance, SPD, Material Management, etc., as some still call it). Projects that should take six months take six years to complete, due to a variety of reasons, mostly in the control of these two branches of the VHA. Your idea of "privatizing" certain of the dysfunctional aspects of the VHA system could truly make it a healthcare model. The clinical staff, pharmacuetical innovation, information technology and colocating with medical educational training all seem to integrate front-line thinking. Meanwhile, Contracting and Infrastructure still plod at snail's pace, unaccountable, with the (direct) cost of capital improvements usually ranging 25 to 50% more than private sector due to delays, set-asides, etc. That's money not going for veteran care or improved facilities!

Harry Walters, just got a chance to visit the website. I think you all are doing an excellent job. I hope that you and the commission will continue and keep up the good work. Our men and women in the armed services need folks like you that are dedicated.

Sincerely, Mayor Bill Marksberry.

I was honored to be a part of the Veterans Tribute Tower dedication in Rising Sun, Indiana and was just thrilled at the large crowd that turned out for it. We enjoyed having Harry Walters and Dave Sevier in Rising Sun along with Selective Service Director, Bill Chatfield. I think they got to see small town America at its best. The bell tower really looks great on our beautiful riverfront and has put Rising Sun on the map.
Sgt. Sammy Davis, Medal of Honor recipient, was the icing on the cake for the dedication. They were able to watch Sammy in action as he talked to the students and witness how much they enjoyed his talk
and stories.
On Wednesday, June 25, 2008 Rising Sun will again be in the news. We're taking 32 World War II Vets to Washington to see their memorial. We'll arrive at the WWII Memorial at 1:30 P.M. and they will have two hours to see it and visit with the people. This is the Honor Flight Tri-State program from Cincinnati but the veterans and guardians are all from Southeastern Indiana. Then we're taking them to Arlington where 4 of them will be a part of the presentation of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It should be quite a trip.
Next month we'll be bringing the AVTT Vietnam Veterans
Wall to Rising Sun from July 10-13 and we expect a big turnout for that. Rising Sun may be small but it sure cares about OUR VETERANS !! I hope Harry, Dave and Bill enjoyed their stay in Rising Sun and we'd enjoy having them come visit again.
